A Little About LWRS

The Society, formerly known as the Grimsby-Louth Railway Preservation Society (GLRPS), was founded in 1978, when British Rail announced its intention to close the remaining stretch of the East Lincolnshire Railway between Grimsby and Louth.
The Society is the fundraising arm of the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, which now operates heritage steam trains on the stretch of restored line between Ludborough and North Thoresby. The long term aspiration is to re-open the line to Louth.

How You Can Help LWRS

Become a member

You can give your support by becoming a member of the Society and by doing so you will get three days free travel at the LWR during the year and 25% discount off travel at other times when you show a current membership card. Discount does not apply to special events (e.g. 1940s Weekend and Santa Specials). You will also receive three copies of our newsletter ‘On the Line’ each year to keep you up-to-date with events at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway.

You can find out more about the various membership options here.

Become a volunteer

The running, restoration and maintenance of the railway are all carried out by volunteers at LWR. They are the lifeblood of our organisation.

If you are interested in helping to keep the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway running we would love to hear from you. We welcome all new male and female volunteers, both young and old, to come along and get involved. To find out more, visit our volunteers page or telephone 01507 363881 for further information.
